Why Traffic Control is Needed
Worker Safety: Traffic controllers protect construction crews from vehicle hazards by directing motorists and establishing safe work zones. This reduces the risk of jobsite accidents and fatalities.
Public Safety: They ensure drivers and pedestrians are guided safely through or around construction areas, preventing collisions, injuries, and traffic congestion.
Project Efficiency: Effective traffic control minimizes disruption to the public, reduces delays, and improves the overall flow of traffic around the site—helping projects stay on schedule.
Who Provides Traffic Control
In-House Traffic Control Departments: Large construction firms sometimes maintain their own dedicated teams for traffic control operations.
Specialized Traffic Management Companies: Many businesses focus exclusively on traffic control, offering services such as planning, implementation, and management of safe work zones.
Certified Traffic Control Personnel: Trained and certified flaggers, traffic managers, and safety specialists use signs, signals, and flagging devices to keep both crews and the public safe.
